Information on the photogaphs
Top row, left to right:
- "The Road"
On the way to Snöhetta, near Hjerkinn, I looked for a bend in the road, while a very low sun reflected on the pebbles. Shot with a 200 mm lens. Many people think that the mountains are clouds.
- "Sirius"
At 6 a.m. in the morning I drove into a dense fog on the Hardanger Vidda. At the other side the mist was golden coloured. I had to work very fast because five minutes after sunrise the sun was too bright to take any photographs.
- "Submerged Tree"
Between Røros and Sweden there was a large area with shallow streams. The tree was apparently cut down when the river followed a different course.
- "Fokstua"
One of my first colour landscapes in Norway, taken in 1972. Because of the soft colours and the large grains, almost every one thinks that this is a painting. Like the other landscapes on this page, this is a hand made 50 x 60 cm print.
Bottom row, left to right:
- "Stars"
Because of the exposure time of seven minutes the stars appear as short streaks, in which you can recognize the Great Bear (Ursa Major). The polar star is in the top right corner: it does not move. Taken at the Hardanger Vidda at 23.00 hours in August.
- "Dawn"
This photograph is taken at the exact same location as the photograph "Stars", but one year later.
- "Dalwhinnie"
View of the village Dalwhinnie, Scotland, where you can see a whisky distillery. Taken in December 1972.
- "Telephone Wires"
This shot was taken at Fokstua with a polarizing filter. I had to wait until the cloud moved to the right side of the frame. This is a “once in a lifetime” photograph. You can never expect to take one like this again.
"In every landscape you can see the signature of God"
The landscapes on this site were taken in Norway and Scotland. The quality of the northern light that exists in the mountain areas in these countries contributes to the tranquillity and power of the photographs. But also my experience of unity in nature permeates the photographs.
